The Effects of Workplace Violence on the Emotional Exhaustion among Social Workers - Moderating Effects of Supervision

Abstract
The purpose of this study was to investigate moderating role of supervision between workplace violence(violence from coworker or boss) and emotional exhaustion among social worker. The study was analyzed by moderated multiple regression utilizing data of ¡®Research on the actual condition of social worker¡¯s right in 2013¡¯. The major findings of this study were as follows: First, workplace violence has significant impact on emotional exhaustion. Second, especially violence from superior shows more meaningful effect than violence from peer in emotion exhaustion. The more workplace violence was happened, the more emotional exhaustion appeared. Third, supervision moderated between workplace violence and emotional exhaustion. While the more workplace violence increases, the stronger emotional exhaustion was shown in group under the lower supervision, the smaller emotional exhaustion was shown in group under the higher supervision. Based on the result, this study suggested that intervention of workplace violence is needed in mental health social work practice.
